Radiosonde W2430548 recovered by KQ6RS
I originally drove out to collect this sonde shortly after it landed on Sept 9, 2024. It was at night. I picked up the exact coordinates with my TTGO. As I started hiking to it a helicopter began hovering over the area. I also saw many vehicles with flashing red lights coming down Alta Road, which I had parked on. This location is 4 km from the Mexican border. It is also 1.0 km from Donovan Prison. I suspected the authorities were wondering what someone with a flashlight was doing in the dark hiking in the area. I also carry a gun (CCW license). I decided to return to my truck. They parked about 100 feet behind. Several minutes went by and they did not come over to me. I assumed I was not what they were interested and slowly drove away. Today all was quiet in the area as we retrieved this sonde.
